Our Digital Training Solutions
New horizons in virtual training environments – advanced training technologies.
When Virtual Reality (VR) is mentioned, most people probably first think of video games. Essentially it is a question of software that can be changed and adapted as needed – also for useful purposes. Through ViSTIS – Virtual Ship Training and Information System – this technology has entered the world of training. It is achieved through a Digital Twin that works with so-called serious gaming technology. At thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, the department for Digital Training & Media has adopted a new strategy for training submarine and ship crews. Experienced “old salts” are willing to help – VR meets real experience.
The ViSTIS concept is most definitely not a game, rather it is a valuable training tool in which the didactic learning curve is based on the results of scientific research into the teaching and learning process (serious gaming). It is set up on a Digital Twin of the submarine/ship using original 3D CAD data and thus provides an interactive platform for various training modules. For example, it can be used to improve and deepen initiation training, in refresher courses, for additional training in emergency procedures or for tactical training at individual or team level on land. By making full use of AR and VR technologies, a game engine, our shipbuilding expertise as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and our know-how in naval training requirements, we have not only created a training platform, we have also developed a holistic training concept along the lines of a didactically founded learning curve. This flexible learning process is composed of sequential training units that can equally well be used as separate, individual courses and can be adapted to the customer’s specific needs. And the whole concept can be put in motion before the first ship in a new series has been built and launched.
